March 13th Today saw our last fixture of the season with a very successful coffee morning at the kennels Many thanks to all our supporters and followers who have been extremely understanding through this long winter period which gave us first floods and then snow & ice -- conditions which we have not seen for many years. We wish all our landowner and farmers better weather and success for the coming spring & lambing. If you still need a chuckle--You'll have to visit the Masters Jokes page |

It was with great sadness that we in The Blencathra learned of the untimely passing of Christopher Bland, Huntsman of The Melbreak Foxhounds (our close and good neighbours).
We had considerable respect and admiration for the manner in which Christopher unselfishly continued the family tradition when his father Pritch "stepped off the fell". Christopher was a quiet unassuming young man , but for anyone who knew him well he was kindness personified. We in Fell hunting will be the poorer without Christopher , not least with his friendly disposition , generous spirit and his engaging smile. Our thoughts remain firmly with Christopher's family and friends, especially his Mum Liz and sister Caroline at this desperately sad and difficult time. I know that I speak for everyone connected with The Blencathra , when I send our very best wishes to Johnny Vickers and all connected with the Melbreak , as they try and find a way forward following the significant loss of Christopher. The floods have now receded [we have had frost, ice & snow since then]but the clear up continues especially in the valleys of Borrowdale,Newlands,St Johns, Thirlmere and Bassenthwaite in our area. Several bridges are still closed & need major repairs and the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund is still open CLICK HERE If you wish to contribute to a fund for individuals, families and for voluntary groups who suffered in the flooding on 19 November. Our thoughts & wishes go out to all those landowners, farmers and local community [both in our area & farther afield]who have been affected by the flooding & its consequences.

The Hunting Act with 52.8%
Dangerous Dogs Act: 1.6%
Serious Organised Crime and Police Act : 6.2%
Human Rights Act: 6.1%
European Communities Act : 29.7%
